Biography

CAROL  MOORE  has long been involved with World Jazz, beginning early in her career as the vocalist of the group Opa (Airto Moreira and Flora Purim's Fingers band).    With Opa, Carol went on tour in South America as the opening act for Milton Nascimento.  Following this tour, she continued to work as a singer in Argentina. 

She recorded Otroshakers, a tribute album dedicated to the group Los Shakers (Opa's predecessor), which was Latin America's most popular group in the late sixties. 

She also performed in concert and on numerous television shows with Argentina's leading big band/pops orchestra, conducted by Panchito Nolé, in addition to making various recording appearances for Litto Nebbia/ Melopea Records of Argentina. 

Carol recorded in New York with Opa members Ruben Rada and Hugo Fattoruso for Rada's album, Montevideo, which features Beledo on guitar, drummer Anton Fig  (Late Night with David Letterman),  bassist, Bakithi Kumalo (Paul Simon's Graceland), and Hiram Bullock.

In her hometown of Miami, Carol was a theatre major at the University of Miami and studied voice with Gina Maretta, who also coached Gloria Estefan and Jon Secada.  She performed extensively with her own band, Project I, which included bassist Leif Johansen from the 80's band Aha.

Once she moved to New York, Carol sang regularly with The Steven Scott Orchestras, and with her own quartet, Tour de Force, including Broadway’s Smoky Joe's Cafe keyboardist, Mark Berman.  She also performed a series of shows with the well-known Brasilian Bossa Nova group, The Tamba Trio. 

Other credits include a vast number of recording sessions which included: Jon Anderson of Yes, ABC-TV's World Of Discovery, Toninho Horta, and Jaco Pastorius' long-time collaborator Othello Molineaux’s album It's About Time, in addition to live performances of this material at the Big World Music Festival in New York.

After performing with guitarist Beledo and Hemispheres, which included bassist Mario Rodriguez (Al di Meola and Gato Barbieri) and vibraphonist/recording artist Joe Locke, at New York’s Le Bar Bat and Nell's, Carol returned to South America and performed at Alemdalenda Jazz Club in Montevideo. Most recently, back in the U.S. after playing in the Caribbean, she has done a series of performances in Manhattan at Citrus, Kavehaz, and Nell's.
